Home Mobile News iPhone SE 4 to be very “un-iPhone SE like”! Over 1-day battery, Face ID, and more

iPhone SE 4 could be largely based on the phased out iPhone XR, suggests latest tip from Jon Prosser. Here is all you need to know.

iPhone SE 3, or iPhone SE 3rd Gen wasn't received with much fanfare and the reasons have been pretty obvious – it is based on a decade-old iPhone 6 design. Hence, it could be the reason the iPhone SE isn't selling as much as expected. Apple seems to have taken this under consideration and is now planning to rework on the iPhone SE. In its fourth generation, the iPhone SE is now said to be based on another phased out version of the iPhone. And you guessed it right – it will be the humble iPhone XR that would act as the base for the iPhone SE 4.

The iPhone SE 4, based on a tip from tipster Jon Prosser via the Geared Up podcast (via Apple Track), is likely to be based on the iPhone XR form factor. That is once again not as modern as something like the iPhone 13 but for existing iPhone SE users, it could be a big upgrade, quite literally. The iPhone XR launched in 2018 made a name for itself with its outstanding battery life and a modern iPhone X-like design. For iPhone SE users, the 2018 revolution is happening at least by 2024.

iPhone SE 4 to be just an upgraded iPhone XR

Prosser doesn't reveal when we could see an updated iPhone SE 4 but based on Apple's launch cycle, it could be 2024 before we see a new iPhone SE. If that is the case, the iPhone SE 4 may rely on the same chipset as the iPhone 15, which is expected to use a new 3nm A17 Bionic chip, or possibly the year older (by then) A16 Bionic chip. After all, the standard iPhone 14 models will be reusing the iPhone 13's A15 Bionic chip for another year.

However, with the iPhone SE 4 based on the iPhone XR, there will be some massive upgrades to the overall user experience. The iPhone SE 4 could gain a much larger and useful 6.1-inch LCD display. The Touch ID could give way for the Face ID verification system.

The camera sensors could stay the same as the iPhone XR and so will the battery capacity, but that is good. The iPhone XR had a great battery life and the iPhone SE might finally get rid of its meager battery stamina claims.

Note that this is just a tip and Apple is yet to confirm anything. Hence, we still have that 4.7-inch iPhone SE as our only entry-level iPhone in 2022.
