iPhone 17 Pro Max Rumored To Get 48MP Telephoto Cam

The iPhone 15 series made its debut in September 2023 – just a few months back. We are already receiving updates about the iPhone 16 series but that’s not all. iPhone 17 series is going to be even more exciting with custom Wi-Fi 7 chips and a 48MP periscope telephoto camera according to the latest buzz.

According to Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Securities who assesses Apple’s supply chain, the iPhone 17 Pro Max could get a 48MP telephoto camera optimized for the upcoming Vision Pro headsets set to make their debut in March 2024.

Both iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have spatial video recording capabilities with 3D depth. The devices use both primary and ultrawide angle cameras in landscape models to capture spatial videos using Vision Pro headsets with the iOS 17.2 dropping earlier this month.

The current iPhone 15 Pro configuration includes a 48MP primary plus 12MP ultrawide and a 12MP telephoto sensor. With the iPhone 16 Pro reportedly upping the ultrawide camera to a 48MP sensor, the iPhone 17 Pro/Max could be the first iPhone in Apple’s history to host an all-48MP camera. Of course, you will have to take this intel with a pinch of salt given the fact that it is just too early to comment on a smartphone launching in September 2025.

Circling back to the improved telephoto lens on iPhone 17 Pro Max, more megapixels clubbed with optimized software means iPhones will be able to capture more detailed shots especially when paired with Apple Vision Pro.

There are also rumors on iPhones with a 10x tetraprism lens (iPhone 15 Pro Max uses 5x), although it remains to be seen if this is a part of the iPhone 17 Pro Max or a later series.
