iPhone 16 Pro To Come With Faster 5G Modem And A New Ultra-Wide Sensor: Report

Just a hot minute after the iPhone 15 launch, rumors and reports about the iPhone 16 lineup have started to pour in. The latest churn in the mill is from Jeff Pu from Haitong International Securities. The analyst has predicted that the iPhone 16 Pro will have a faster 5G modem and Wi-Fi 7 for better connectivity. Further, Pu also suggests that the 2024 Pro iPhone model will feature a new ultra-wide lens. 

iPhone 16 Pro To Feature A New 5G Modem

In a note to investors (seen by 9To5Mac), Pu talks about potential changes in the iPhone 16 lineup, citing information from Apple’s supply chain sources. The iPhone 16 Pro, per the analyst, will come with the new A18 Pro silicon chip built on the 3nm fabrication technology. 

Although the new chipset will feature 8GB of RAM, the same as the iPhone 15 Pro lineup, it will come with the Snapdragon X75 modem, which should provide higher download speeds on 5G (up to 7.5 Gbps). 

Compared to Wi-Fi 6e on the iPhone 15 Pro, the iPhone 16 Pro will feature Wi-Fi 7, the fastest wireless network standard. In theory, the upcoming Pro iPhones should reach download speeds of 46 Gbps, depending on the router and network strength. 

New Ultra-Wide Sensor On The iPhone 16 Pro

The iPhone 16 Pro might also have a new ultra-wide sensor, upgrading the resolution from 12MP to 48MP. If this happens, it will be a significant upgrade as the 12MP ultrawide sensor on the iPhones often lacks details, especially if one tries to zoom in. Since the ultra-wide lens doubles as a macro lens, the higher resolution should also benefit macro photographs. 

Another unexpected change to the iPhone lineup is in its size. The new iPhones will be 0.2 inches larger than the current form factor of 6.1 and 6.7 inches. Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young also corroborated this claim in the past. The slight increase in dimensions will enable Apple to equip the iPhone 16 Pro with a larger tetra-prism lens for up to five times optical zoom.
