iPhone 15 to leave fastest RAM option for iPhone 16, says new leak

1 year ago 65

iPhone 15 Pro to stick with older LPDDR5 RAM and leave it for the iPhone 16 of 2024. All details here.

The iPhone 15 Pro may leave the fastest RAM option for 2024's iPhone 16. Based on a new report, it is now said that Apple could stick with the older LPDDR5 RAM for another year before using the new LPDDR5X RAM for its iPhone 16 series from 2024. The LPDDR5X RAM was revealed by Samsung in late 2022 as a faster and more power efficient version of the LPDDR5 RAM, which is already on the iPhone 14 series and most of 2022 Android flagship phones.

Based on a new tip from leakster ShrimpApplePro, it is now said that the A17 Bionic chip powering the iPhone 15 Pro models will make use of the LPDDR5 RAM. The A17 Bionic will be a 3nm chip based on the N3B chip process whereas the A18 Bionic chip will be based on the enhanced 3nm chip process.

iPhone 15 series to not use fastest RAM available

Not all is bad for those expecting upgrades to the RAM. The iPhone 15 Pro models are now expected to get 8GB RAM, which is more than the 6GB RAM present on the iPhone 14 Pro models.

The extra RAM along with the faster and more power efficient 3nm chips should ensure that the iPhone 15 Pro series will have a substantial performance advantage over the rest of the field. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 unveiled this year for 2023 Android smartphones uses the refined TSMS 4nm enhanced chip process and Android manufacturers may need to wait until 2024 for getting a 3nm chip process.

Currently, Apple is using the 4nm A16 Bionic chip on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, offering great performance and power efficiency. The standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus rely on the older 5nm A15 Bionic chip with the 5-core GPU from the iPhone 13 Pro.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to get the A16 Bionic chip from the iPhone 14 Pro, and the new Dynamic Island design. Apple is expected to use a new 48MP camera sensor on the standard models, allowing for digital zooming. The iPhone 15 Pro is also said to get a 6x periscope zoom camera.
