iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus Set to Boast Advanced 48-Megapixel Sony Camera, Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo Reveals

1 year ago 74

Apple’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to launch later this year. According to TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, both these models will get a significant bump up in camera hardware. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are to feature a 48-megapixel rear camera as per Ming-Chi Kuo. This enhanced camera sensor, similar to the one introduced in the previous iPhone 14 Pro lineup, utilizes stacked CMOS image sensor (CIS) technology, enabling better image quality and improved low-light performance.

Initially, Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu had predicted the adoption of the upgraded 48-megapixel camera by Apple. However, concerns over production issues with the stacked sensor were raised, potentially delaying the release of the new iPhones. Nevertheless, Kuo’s latest report indicates that Apple’s supplier, Sony, has significantly increased CIS production by 100-120 percent to meet the demand, eliminating production delays.

While this development bodes well for Apple, Kuo warns that the boosted production has led to a shortage of CIS supply for manufacturers of high-end Android smartphones. Consequently, Android handset makers, particularly Chinese brands, may have to seek alternative suppliers like Will Semi and Smartsens for high-end CIS solutions.

The current iPhone 14 series features dual rear cameras with 12-megapixel sensors, while the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max offer a 48-megapixel primary camera, allowing users to capture ProRAW photos with improved photo quality in various lighting conditions.

As of now, Apple has yet to officially announce the launch date of the iPhone 15 series, but expectations are high for significant camera advancements and other exciting features when the new models finally hit the market.
