iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro are likely to get new ultra-wide camera sensors, enabling better image quality.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have long been known to get a new camera sensor this year, bumping the megapixel count from 12 to 48. This could allow Apple to let the iPhone 14 Pro camera capture more details and improve its low light photography. The official teaser for the Apple event also hints at an astrophotography mode. At the time, rumours suggested that the other two rear cameras of the iPhone 14 Pro will remain unchanged from the iPhone 13 Pro. A new tip now suggests otherwise and it comes from renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a new report, it is said that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max may also get a new camera sensor for the ultra-wide camera. The resolution may remain the same at 12MP but the sensor size will be larger this time. This should result in better low light performance and greater overall detailing.

iPhone 14 Pro may get newer ultra-wide camera

“I predict two iPhone 14 Pro models' ultra-wide cameras will upgrade to 1.4µm (vs. iPhone 13 Pro's 1.0µm). CIS (CMOS image sensor), VCM (voice coil motor), and CCM (compact camera module) have a significant unit price increase in this upgrade, with about 70%, 45%, and 40%,” says Kuo in his latest tweet.

This suggests that the camera upgrades could make Apple warrant a price hike for the Pro models this year. Both the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are getting at least a $100 price hike when compared to the iPhone 13 Pro models, as suggested by the previous rumours.

Some other leaks have also suggested a faster 30W charging support on the iPhone 14 Pro models this year. The display itself is expected to lose the notch and gain a camera cutout design. The iPhone 14 Pro models are also said to get the newer and faster Apple A16 Bionic chip, which will promise slightly better performance over the iPhone 13 Pro.

Even the front camera is said to gain a new autofocus feature along with a new 6P lens arrangement. This should help Apple improve its portrait mode photos, which has been lacking when compared to those from the Samsung Galaxy S22 series this year.
