iPhone 14 price: A hike or a cut? Know what reports suggest

With people eagerly waiting for the launch of the iPhone 14 in the upcoming Apple 'Far Out' event, scheduled for September 7, 2022, the most important thing that everyone wants to know is the price one will have to pay for the latest smartphone. There are mixed expectations regarding the price of the iPhone 14 series. Some leaks and reports suggest a hike of $100-$150 in the price compared to iPhone 13 series, while some say the company will keep the cost much lower.

Considering inflation and cost of living, if Apple launches the iPhone 14 series with a higher price, it may become difficult to convince people to buy or switch to the latest handset. According to a report by CNN, "Apple faces a real conundrum of pricing," said Ben Wood, chief analyst at market research firm CCS Insight. On top of inflation and cost-of-living pressures wreaking havoc on consumers, he noted that Apple simultaneously faces rising costs associated with iPhone components and transportation.

Speaking to CNN Business, Wood added, "My expectation is that Apple will probably have to nudge prices up." But given the strain consumers are facing, he thinks Apple will also do "everything they can to make that as minimal as possible," the report said.

Apple is also facing several other issues like supply chain hiccups stemming from China's zero-Covid policy were partly linked to the company's 11 percent year-over-year drop in quarterly profits reported last month. Apple CEO Tim Cook said on the earnings call, however, that there was "no obvious evidence of macroeconomic impact" to iPhone sales.

Cook added that the company even set a third-quarter record "for both revenue and switchers to iPhone," adding that "customers continue to find that iPhone remains the gold standard for smartphones," as quoted by CNN.

Ming-Chi Kuo, analyst at TF International Securities, has earlier informed via a tweet that he expects Apple to raise the average selling price of the iPhone 14 series by around 15 percent compared to the iPhone 13 series.

While according to a report by TrendForce, a market research firm, Apple might not go for a $100 price increase and expects the price of the standard iPhone 14 to start from $749 (roughly 60,000), which is lower than what the iPhine 13 was launched at. According to the report, Apple can launch the iPhone 14 series at lower price and can later increase the same.

The report suggests that the standard iPhone 14 can come with a price tag of $749 (roughly Rs. 60,000) and the cost can later go up to $799. The iPhone 14 Max can come with a starting price of $849 (roughly Rs. 68,000) which can later go up to $899. The iPhone 14 Pro price may start at $1,049 (roughly Rs. 83,000) and can hike to $1,099. While the iPhone 14 Pro Max can come at a starting price of $1,149 (roughly Rs. 91,000) which can later increase to $1,199.
