Home Mobile News iPhone 11 might die soon and that is OKAY! And you can thank iPhone 14 for it

iPhone 11 could be discontinued once Apple announced the iPhone 14 series at the September 7 launch event. Here is why.

The iPhone 11 may soon be in the grave and there is one very good reason for it – the iPhone 14. Every year, Apple keeps discontinuing its older models with the announcement of a new one. We have seen the likes of the iPhone 8 and iPhone XR discontinued three years after their launch. In 2022, it could be the turn of the iPhone 11 ending its life. Apple may instead make the iPhone 12 the most affordable “modern” iPhone you can buy starting this year, alongside the iPhone SE 3rd Generation.

Before you put your hands up in the air and panic, know that Apple is yet to announce anything regarding the discontinuation of the iPhone 11. Hence, if you have just bought one, there's no need to worry. However, if you plan to buy one, it is advisable to wait for a few more weeks. Moreover, it is not that the iPhone 11 has breakthrough technologies to offer for the price – it is, in fact, a phone from 2019.

iPhone 11 could see its maker this year

Apple usually keeps an iPhone model alive for at least three years before discontinuing it. The iPhone XR was pulled off the shelves last year with the announcement of the iPhone 13. Yes, you still get to see the stocks available on Flipkart but these are the last ones left. With the same logic applied, the iPhone 11 could be meeting its maker this year, since the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 will be the two other cheaper models to buy this year.

Moreover, the iPhone 11 with its dated LCD display, older camera sensors and an out-of-fashion design just doesn't appeal as a Rs. 50,000 smartphone.

However, there is another big reason why the iPhone 11 could hit the dust and it comes as no shocker to iPhone fans.

iPhone 11 not a 5G phone!

Yes, with 5G networks flourishing around the world and expected to mushroom in India later this year, it makes no sense for Apple to sell the iPhone 11. The iPhone 11 is the only iPhone on sale that supports 4G networks only. Earlier this year, Apple had updated the iPhone SE with a 5G enabled chipset, thereby making the entry-level iPhone a 5G option as well. However, we doubt Apple would update the iPhone 11 with a 5G chipset and instead drop the prices of the iPhone 12, which was Apple's first 5G iPhone.

Did You Know?

The iPhone 12 was the first 5G iPhone Apple put on the shelves. The iPhone 12 used the A14 Bionic chip that used 5G modem, thereby letting it support 5G networks across the globe. Apple then upgraded the iPhone SE to support 5G, albeit with the more powerful A15 Bionic chip from iPhone 13.
