iOS attracts more in Q4 2022 but Android plays its trump card again

1 year ago 74

iOS attracts more users in Q4 2022 by 30 percent but Android dominates with a share of 70 percent.

Android dominates the world of smartphones when it comes to market share and Apple's iOS usually stays behind due to its exclusivity. For years, this shows in the statistics and this year, the same happens again. However, iOS has gained considerably this year and while the share remains under 30 percent, it is the highest on the iPhone side. This is attributed to iOS 16 and the new iPhone 14 Pro, which had its Dynamic Island to bank on.

Based on the research report by StockApps and data collected by Statista, it is said that iOS gained up to 30 percent of market share in mobile operating systems category. Android, on the other hand, continues to dominate the market with almost 70 percent share.

“Apple is gaining ground in the mobile market due to its focus on customer experience, innovative designs, and quality products. With the introduction of its new flagship iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple has given itself a competitive edge and attracted more users to its platform. Android is losing market share in key markets like China due to its lack of innovation and fragmentation, which have caused customers to switch over to Apple,” says the report.

iOS gains more traction in the market

However, it was Android that dominated the phase and there were some good reasons considered for the same. Android's open source nature allowed manufacturers to use it without any licence fees, thereby allowing for much lower price points.

Additionally, the open source nature of Android allows makers to customise the look and feel of the devices. Third-party apps also allow users to add new features, which is something iOS doesn't allow.

However, the reason why iOS gains traction is due to Android's drawbacks. Android is still a resource intensive platform and as devices get old, the performance becomes slower. Plus, Android apps are not of the same quality as the ones you get on iOS devices.

As you read this, Apple just released the iOS 16.2 update for all iPhones on the iOS 16 platform. The iOS 16.2 update enables 5G across compatible devices in India, a new AOD style, a new Freeform app, and much more.
