Apple to bring Generative AI to all its devices as soon as next year

After successfully releasing iOS 17 for compatible devices, Apple is working on the next iteration of its operating system for iPhone – iOS 18. The Cupertino-based giant should announce the version sometime next year, probably during the WWDC 2024, and release it as a beta version for early adopters and testers. Although iOS 17 was a major upgrade, iOS 18 will focus more on integrating AI into the classic iOS experience.

iOS 18 To Ship With New Machine Learning Features For Apple Messages, Music

Per the latest report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on integrating AI-related features in its apps and services, including but not limited to Apple Messages, Music, and the popular voice assistant Siri. For Messages, the company is working on better reply suggestions that rely on machine learning. Further, Apple Music should also get advanced AI capabilities, wherein the service should be able to generate entire playlists, Gurman notes in his Power On newsletter.

Siri To Get Its Long Overdue Upgrade

Apple’s voice assistant Siri should also get AI-related features with iOS 18. Apple’s SVP, John Giannandrea, and the team are working on releasing a new, smarter version of Siri based on the company’s large language model. However, what these features could be and how they could improve users’ experience isn’t known at the moment. Recently, Google integrated Bard to its voice assistant, enabling features like scanning through users’ Gmail and Drive for personalized results.

The company will also integrate AI and machine learning features into other apps like Keynote, Numbers, and Pages, Gurman writes. From what it looks like, the company is trying to catch up with its competitors like Google and Microsoft, who already have a headstart in integrating AI-related features to devices and services readily available to most users, like smartphones, web browsers, etc.
