iOS 17.3.1 rolls out with a minor bug fix Apple singled out earlier

7 months ago 51

iOS 17.3.1 is here as a minor update over iOS 17.3 released more than two weeks ago. The update doesn’t carry much except the bug that caused text to duplicate or overlap when the user would type.

iOS 17.3.1 comes as a minor update weighing 298.2MB (at least on the iPhone 15 Pro Max). The changelog for the update doesn’t carry much information although we could say there might be usual optimizations and bug fixes apart from the duplicate or overlapping text when typing.

You can download the iOS 17.3.1 via Settings >> General >> Software Updates to get your hands on the patch. Alternatively, you can keep the Automatic Updates enabled on your iPhone to get notified when an update has arrived and install it as and when it arrives.

iOS 17.3 arrived with a critical feature called Stolen Device Protection that makes your iPhone resilient against theft by adding a security delay when someone tries to change your phone’s password or access certain critical settings. Turns out iPhone thieves engineered their moves around siphoning iPhones from someone’s pocket and changing their passwords in a few seconds. The iOS 17.3 makes it difficult for the thieves to change the password instantly, possibly giving the phone owner enough time to react and report the stolen phone to Apple.

Next up, we have iOS 17.4 coming in March as a major update. It brings plenty of features especially for EU users including app sideloading, changing default search engine, and payment methods on the App Store to name a few. There’s also a major update on the Stolen Device Protection feature whereby it engages ‘always’ rather than when working only at ‘unfamiliar’ locations.
