iOS 16.1 update has now been released for all supported iPhones, and iPadOS 16.1 is also available for iPads.

iPhone users, there's some good news for you this morning! Apple has just released the iOS 16.1 update to all iPhones running on iOS 16. Along with that, Apple has also released the iPadOS 16 version for iPad users; iPadOS 16.1 to be specific. Additionally, Apple also released the watchOS 9.1 update and tvOS 16.1 update for devices. The updates are now available for all these devices, and you can download them right away.

Note that these updates are available for free and the only way to download them is to check for the update via the Settings app on iOS and iPadOS. It is advisable that you download the iOS 16.1 update and iPadOS 16.1 update via Wi-Fi, since these are big updates and you will need a lot of data. You can also use mobile data to download the update packages as well. The same goes for watchOS 9 and tvOS 16.

iOS 16.1 update: What's new?

The biggest changes to iOS 16.1 comes in the form of Live Activities from third party apps on the lockscreen of iPhones and the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro models. iOS 16.1 also brings support for iCloud Shared Photo Library, Apple Fitness+ without an Apple Watch, key sharing in Wallet, Clean Energy Charging in the United States, and a couple of bug fixes. Users of the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 13 Mini will also see a new Battery Meter.

iPadOS 16.1 update: What's new?

The biggest change to the iPad comes in the form of the Stage Manager that introduces a new multitasking interface taken from macOS Ventura. Stage Manager will be available on all iPad Pro 3rd Gen models, and the new iPad Air M1. iPadOS 16 also gets new features for Messages, a suite of smart tools for Mail, iCloud Shared Photo Library, new security and collaboration features for Safari, and, Finally! A Weather app on iPad!

Other updates

The watchOS 9.1 promises to extend battery life during workout activities such as outdoor walking, running, hiking, and more. Users can also reduce the frequency of heart rate and GPS scans on Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) and Apple Watch Ultra. Users will also be able to download music while the watch is not charging via Wi-Fi and cellular. The tvOS 16.1 update gets a new design for Siri, support for shared photo libraries, and support for the Apple Watch-less Fitness+.
