Here’s Why The iPhone 15 Pro Has Heating Issues

Just a short minute after the iPhone 15 Pro hit the shelves, users are complaining about severe overheating problems in the smartphone. Many early adopters have reported heating issues, especially while charging the phone. While the Cupertino-based tech giant has yet to address this issue, tipster Ming-Chi Kuo revealed its cause.

iPhone 15 Pro Heating Issues Are Unrelated To The New Chipset

In a post on Medium, the known Apple analyst writes that the iPhone 15 Pro series overheating issues are not related to the A17 Pro chipset, which is based on TSMC’s 3nm fabrication technology. Instead, the compromised thermal system, designed to lower the weight of the iPhone, is the primary cause of the problem. Kuo mentions explicitly that the reduced heat dissipation area and the use of a titanium frame negatively impact the smartphone’s thermal efficiency.

For those catching up, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max weigh 187 and 221 grams, respectively. In comparison, last year’s iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max weighed 206 and 240 grams, respectively. The numbers indicate that Apple has indeed reduced the weight of the new iPhones by a significant margin. However, while some of that comes from the new titanium material, which is lighter than stainless steel, compromising the heat dissipation mechanism might not have been a great idea.

Kuo also says that Apple will address this issue through a software update. Still, the improvements it can achieve on the software side will be limited unless the company decreases the processor’s performance. Nonetheless, if this issue remains unresolved, it could reduce the overall shipments of the iPhone 15 Pro series and shorten the overall life cycle of the product.
