Google unveils Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold, Week 33 in review

1 month ago 22

Google pushed its Pixel event two full months earlier and unveiled the largest yet lineup of Pixels - four. The expected Pixel 9 arrived with a 6.3-inch 120Hz OLED, a flat body, the new Tensor G4 chipset, and an upgraded ultrawide angle camera.

For the first time, Google made a smaller Pro phone in the Pixel 9 Pro - the same 6.3-inch display diagonal, but with a superior LTPO panel, a better selfie camera, and a periscope zoom lens. The Pixel 9 Pro XL is the usual big flagship, but it got an XL added to its name and a 0.1-inch bump in screen estate. It shares the Tensor G4 and the camera system with the smaller Pixel 9 Pro.

Finally, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold brings a redesigned, and thinner body, larger displays, and an updated hinge.

The Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL will ship at the end of August, while the Pixel 9 Pro and the 9 Pro Fold will follow in September.

Google also unveiled the Pixel Watch 3, which comes in two sizes for the first time - the usual 41mm and a new 45mm. It has the same Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 SoC for wearables, and the same collection of sensors such as HR monitor, ECG readings, SpO2, skin thermometer, and GPS. The new addition is the UWB chip.

Prolific leakster and lately outspoken Samsung critic Ice Universe shared mock-ups of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, showing more rounded corners that are no longer palm-piercing 90° angles.

While on the Samsung topic, the Galaxy S24 FE is fast approaching with an Exynos 2400e chipset.
