Last year, Google announced it would start manufacturing the Pixel phones in India in 2024. Now, per a recent report by Nikkei Asia, the Alphabet-owned company has told its suppliers to begin manufacturing its phones in the country by the next quarter. The company wants to diversify its supply chain outside of China and benefit from the growing smartphone market in India.

Google Will Begin Making Pixel 8 Pro In India

In the coming weeks, the company will prepare the production for the Pixel 8 Pro in South India. Google aims to churn out smartphones by the second quarter of this year. It will then focus on the Pixel 8, which will be put together in North India by the middle of this year.

As more and more smartphone companies start manufacturing in the country, several assembly and component suppliers have come to India. Google’s rivals, Apple and Samsung, benefit from manufacturing their smartphones in the country. They get several rebates from the government, and riding the “Made in India” bandwagon helps them with sales, too.

Making Phones Locally Could Help The Company Provide Exciting Discounts

Last year, Google achieved a milestone by selling 10 million smartphones for the first time. It was also the year when the company released its first foldable smartphone. With the diversification of the supply chain, the company must be looking forward to boosting sales in India.

Manufacturing its phones here will also enable Google to provide decent discounts and attract more users to its smartphone. Ultimately, the company wants to sell over 10 million smartphones in 2024.
