Google Pixel Watch 2 To Get A Thermometer, New Fitbit UI Design: Report

1 year ago 55

Google has confirmed that it will unveil the Pixel 8 series on October 4, 2023. We also expect the company to reveal the Pixel Watch 2, the successor to Google’s first smartwatch released last year. Ahead of the official event, a report claims that the Pixel Watch 2 will come with a thermometer, along with improvements to the “wearable versions of Fitbit and Personal Safety.”

New Sensors And Features On The Pixel Watch 2

Per a report by 9To5Google, the touted Pixel Watch 2 will get the new features and capabilities as seen on the Fitbit Sense 2. These features will rely on an array of improved sensors, including an electrodermal activity (EDA) sensor for stress management. The watch could also help users monitor and manage stress via several breathing exercises.

Another significant improvement over the last generation Pixel Watch could be a skin temperature sensor for measuring temperature on demand and keeping a record in the companion app. In comparison, Sense 2 only takes a reading of the temperature variation at night. Another potential use of the temperature sensor could be tracking the menstrual cycle, as other smartwatches like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 already do. Still, the publication’s sources could not confirm that.

Like its predecessor, the Google Pixel Watch 2 will rely on Fitbit’s user interface. However, we might see a major revamp in its design, particularly how it displays current stats, like the distance covered or the heart rate, making it more convenient for users to engage with their vitals. The size of other on-screen elements has been increased to make it more readable.

Improvements To Personal Safety

In terms of Personal Safety, the Pixel Watch 2 will support car crash detection, which is already available on the latest Pixel phones. If the Pixel Watch 2 detects a car crash, it will showcase users’ medical information on the screen. Personal Safety’s wearable version will get full support for Emergency Sharing, a feature that enables users to share their location with trusted contacts through an independent cellular connection. The upcoming smartwatch could also include the feature to schedule a Safety Check.

In addition, the Pixel Watch 2 could also feature a more capable Google Assistant, facilitating translation capabilities. However, it is essential to mention that Google hasn’t confirmed these details, and hence, readers should take it with a pinch of salt.
