Google Pixel 7 Pro SHOCKING leak! Makes iPhone 14 look like a better deal

1 year ago 96

Google Pixel 7 Pro has been benchmarked and the results are no higher than a 2021 Android flagship phone.

Google Pixel 7 Pro has leaked once more but the revelation is shocking this time! We know that Google might not be making many changes to the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro this time, and that could still be good. However, Google has listed a new Tensor G2 chip on these new models and so far, our expectations were high – the Tensor G2 could match the Pixel 7's performance with that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powered flagships. However, the case is exactly the opposite, as evident from the recent Geekbench scores.

The Pixel 7 Pro with its Tensor G2 chip was recorded to score 1068 on single core and 3149 on multi core. On AnTuTu, it scores 80116. These are notable improvements over the original Tensor chip that powers the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6a. The big improvements are coming to the AI and ISP sections, while the CPU performance gets a mild boost.

Pixel 7 Pro scores just like 2021 flagships

While the scores are good by all means, the chipset is still comparable to a year old Snapdragon chip. Hence, Google's 2022 flagship won't be as fast as Samsung's 2022 flagship, or any of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 flagships.

This also means that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro won't be as fast and capable as the baseline iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, both of which are using the older A15 Bionic chip from last year's iPhone 13 Pro. Based on rumours, the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is also likely to be offer minor improvements over its predecessor.

However, Google, just like Apple, could make up for the raw performance deficit with its superior optimisation and better power efficiency. The Pixel phones have always been about smartness and we expect Google to have some interesting AI features for the camera as well as the overall user experience.

Unlike the last three releases, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are coming to India this year. The arrival of the Google Pixel devices could stir up the competition in the flagship smartphone space, which is currently dominated by Apple and Samsung. With the vanilla iPhone 14 on a backfoot, and Samsung's Galaxy S22 having aged, the Pixel 7 series has a good chance to shine.
