Google I/O 2024 Date And Time: Where To Watch?

For those catching up, Google I/O will take place on May 14, 2024, starting at 10 AM Pacific Time. The company will broadcast the event to a small audience at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. For everyone else, the keynote will be available to watch online on the official I/O website and the company’s YouTube channel. For those catching up, the Google I/O developer conference is a yearly event that reveals the latest developments in Android (and other Google services) that help developers improve and refine their apps. This year’s I/O should focus on AI-based features that will hit the ecosystem with Android 15.

What To Expect From Google I/O 2024?

At I/O 2024, the Alphabet-owned company will focus on announcing new features and developments related to Android 15. The operating system for compatible devices will be released later this year. In a nutshell, Android 15 will make smartphones much smarter with better AI integration. We already know about some new features coming later this year, such as partial screen sharing, satellite connectivity support, notification management, new in-app camera controls, a high-quality webcam mode, and so on. However, the operating system should also include several improvements related to Google Assistant, battery management, and enhancements for large-screen devices such as foldables and tablets.

The company could also announce some improvements or new features coming to Gemini AI, the chatbot that’s eventually expected to replace Google Assistant on Android smartphones.

Google Pixel 8a

Google generally unveils its new A-series smartphone at the I/O, and this year should be no different. At the developer conference, the company is expected to reveal the Pixel 8a, one of the year’s most anticipated smartphones. In our roundup, we mentioned how the handset should be available in 31 countries, including India. With regards to design and performance, the smartphone should look and feel a lot like the regular Pixel 8. Technical specifications include a 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED screen that supports a 120Hz refresh rate, a Tensor G3 SoC, and a 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor.

Google Pixel Fold 2

Last year, Google showcased the first Pixel Fold at the I/O 2023, which led to speculations about the second iteration showing up at the I/O 2024. There’s a good chance that the company will at least tease the smartphone (or maybe even announce) in May. However, the release might take place in October, along with the Pixel 9 series. In February 2024, we were the first publication to reveal an exclusive first look at the Pixel Fold 2’s 360-degree video and 5K renders. As seen in the images, the foldable looks nothing like its predecessor. For instance, it doesn’t have a horizontal camera visor at the back. Further, it carries a larger form factor than its predecessor. Under the hood, the smartphone should run on the Tensor G4 SoC.
