Google Delays its Next-Gen AI Gemini Launch to January Next Year

Google announced its next-gen AI chatbot named Gemini at the Google I/O 2023 in May. It was set to be announced next week, however, the latest update coming from The Information suggests the unveiling has been pushed to January next week.

Google Gemini, a direct rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4, is a multimodal AI chatbot that can take multiple types of data and produce responses accordingly. For the unversed, ChatGPT can take textual data and return textual output along with voice transcriptions that were enabled recently. However, Google’s Gemini can take different types of content such as text, images, and even website-based responses.

The search engine giant was set to hold multiple launch events in California, Washington, and New York in the US, to roll out Gemini. Cut to now, the giant hasn’t announced the delay yet although The Information cites two anonymous sources who are in the know of this decision.

Back in November, Pichai said that they were working on the biggest update i.e. Gemini 1.0 that will be out soon. The developers will work upon v1.0 to make it better with iterations post-launch. Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai reportedly took the step after Gemini failed to produce reliable responses to non-English queries because Google is emphasizing on AI to have global language support in order to ultimatly match and outperform ChatGPT-4.

Google Gemini will be a rival to OpenAI’s latest GPT-4 model and will outperform the latter in every shape and form including computing power. Sissie Hsiao, VP at Google and Manager of Bard & Google Assistant said that Gemini will be able to respond to queries such as “I’m trying to bake a cake, draw me 3 pictures of the steps to how to ice a three-layer cake”. Although ChatGPT-4 can produce a textual response carrying the steps in detail, it would be able to respond with images which is what sets Gemini apart.
