five things you can do with Gemini

After Apple, Google is reshuffling its workforce to spin the clock on AI advancements and reinforce its global position. While the company is merging its DeepMind division with Research, it has also announced the creation of a team called “Platforms and Devices.” By combining and creating these teams, the company aims to move much faster through the course of developments and integrate AI across all the products.

Google Is Focusing On Timely AI Implementation

Given the company’s position as the maker of the Android operating system and Search, the restructuring is vital for implementing the most efficient way of achieving its goals. Over the last few years, Google has turned its focus toward AI and related features that can help users in their day-to-day tasks.

For instance, the company’s AI chatbot Gemini is rolling out to Pixel phones. Further, it has also partnered with Samsung to provide several intuitive Galaxy AI features, some of which are based on Google’s Gemini. However, as different teams work together on the same project, achieving the goals in the stipulated time becomes slightly challenging, which is why Google is restructuring some of its teams.

Here’s What The New Platforms And Devices Team Will Do

The new Platforms and Devices team will oversee all of the company’s Pixel products, including Android, Chrome, ChromeOS (which runs Chromebooks), Google Photos, and more. Rick Osterloh, the former senior vice president of devices and services, will lead the new team and monitor the hardware efforts.

In a conversation with The Verge, Osterloh said that consolidating teams “helps us to be able to do full-stack innovation when that’s necessary.” He explains how the Pixel camera resulted from hardware, software, and AI integration that worked well.

Further, the lead of the Platforms and Devices team also talked about the GPU on Google’s Tensor chip, stating how it could benefit from keeping the hardware and software teams close to each other.

AI Research And Integration To Go Hand In Hand

Another reason to combine teams is that it could facilitate faster AI integration across all the company’s products. To sum up, Google now has two main teams: one that looks after AI research and development and the other that ensures timely integration of AI into Google’s hardware and software products.

As these times start working on synergy, it should also streamline the product development cycles at Google. All-in-all, the restructuring is a step toward timely AI innovation and implementation. On the flip side, some readers might take this as a departure from the company’s commitment to the Android ecosystem, but ultimately, it’s going to be the AI-based Research and features that will add more functionality to the operating system over the coming years.
