Google Assistant To Get Bard’s Generative AI Capabilities

At the Made By Google launch event on October 4, 2023, the California-based tech giant revealed the new Pixel 8 lineup and the Pixel Watch 2. The company also announced several AI-based features that are making their way to the Pixel lineup, the most intriguing of which was Bard’s integration into Google Assistant, adding generative AI to the personal mobile assistant.

Personalized Responses With Access To Gmail And Drive

As a result, Google Assistant should be able to handle the usual queries that it answers and tasks it performs, like how’s the weather or what’s the dollar to rupee conversion rate today, but on top of that, the voice assistant should be able to scan a users’ Gmail and Drive for personalized responses. For instance, the voice assistant should be able to answer queries like “What emails did I miss this morning,” or “Is there a file named XYZ in my Google Drive?”

On Android phones (and select Samsung phones), Assistant with Bard should be able to recognize the content on the screen and provide a conversational overlay. For instance, it can write social media posts for a picture by understanding the subject in the image and generating related text. Users can also use their camera through Bard’s integration in Google Lens to get more context about anything. Other ways to interact with the improved voice assistant include text and voice.

Generative AI On Android Phones

With Bard, Google Assistant should also carry forward the text generation and conversational abilities. At present, users can ask Bard to explain a touch concept, look up related content published online, and cite sources for its responses. From what it looks like, these features will also make their way to the voice assistant once Google successfully plus in Bard’s language processing model.

Google Assistant with Bard will launch in limited markets in the coming months. It will also be available in non-English speaking regions. The company also says that iOS users can access the improved voice assistant. It is important to mention that users must opt-in for the new features, meaning they shouldn’t be on by default. Moreover, Google Voice Assistant, with Bard, should provide a better, more personalized experience.
