IDC Global PC shipments record (1)

According to a new report by IDC, global PC shipments fell 7.6% this year. Companies sold about 68 million units worldwide. However, amid the fall in demand, there has been a slight increase in PC shipments over the last two quarters, giving some support to the market and showing early signs of improvements.

Market Share Rankings

In 2023, Lenovo maintained its top position by capturing 23.5% of the market share (selling 16.0 million units), while HP Inc. secured the second position by gathering 19.8% of the consumers (13.5 million units). Dell Technologies, in the third position, sold 10.3 million PCs to have a 15.0% market share, while Apple came in fourth by selling 7.2 million units for 10.6% of the market.

Lenovo mostly focuses on making affordable products with a decent specification set and overall usability, which also helps it sell more units. Although HP’s products with similar specifications are slightly more expensive than Lenovo’s, the brand offers excellent after-sales service, promoting it via word of mouth. Dell’s PCs are somewhat on the costly side, and so are Apple’s.

In the top five, the only company to record a growth in sales is HP Inc., with a year-on-year growth rate of 6.4%. Nonetheless, PC shipments dropped to 68.2 million in Q3 2023 from 73.8 million in Q3 2022. The report adds that despite stores having a stock, there is a slight decline in demand.
