Galaxy S24 series arrive with huge focus on AI - Week 3 in review

We can officially call the past seven days 'Galaxy week'. Samsung dominated the headlines with the Galaxy S24 series announcement, despite rumors and leaks spoiling most of the surprises.

Naturally, the Galaxy S24 Ultra outshone the Galaxy S24 and S24+ thanks to its new 5x camera, Titanium frame and new Corning glass, and, well, the fact that it's Samsung's biggest flagship of the year.

AI was front and center at the announcement - the new Galaxies enable a myriad of AI-powered features. Circle to Search is a gesture-driven feature made in collaboration with Google - you long-press on the home button (or the gesture hint bar) and you can circle over anything on the Galaxy S24 Ultra's display and get more details about it. Transcript Assist will transcribe voice notes and can summarize and even translate them. Interpreter is an app that gives two people speaking in foreign languages the chance to communicate, while Live Translate does the same inside the Phone app.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra's cameras bring a new ProVisual Engine that tunes images on the fly. AI is used to move or remove objects and photobombers from the frame and then fill-in the empty space. The Galaxy S24 Ultra starts at $1,300/£1,250 for the 12GB/256GB model, or €1,450 in Europe but over there you only get 8GB of RAM with your 256GB of storage for some reason.

The Galaxy S24 and S24+ also made their debut. Both phones will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in South Korea, the US, and China, and Samsung's new in-house Exynos 2400 elsewhere. The Galaxy S24+ is the bigger update of the two with a slightly bigger and much sharper LTPO display, and a 5% bigger battery.

Finally, Samsung pledged 7 years of software support for the Galaxy S24 series!
