From Face Scans To Tracking Routines: Here’s What Buying Apple’s Vision Pro Will Entail For Customers

Apple Vision Pro available in the US on February 2 at $3,499

Buying Apple’s Vision Pro isn’t going to be like buying a regular gadget from the Apple Store. Last year, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported how customers would have to make appointments to get their hands on the upcoming mixed-reality headset from Apple. With time, more reports have corroborated the same. From what it looks like, Apple wants customers to have the best possible experience, and for that, it will spend approximately 20 to 30 minutes on each user to demonstrate how it works.

First Step: Scanning Users’ Faces For The Perfect Light Seal And Foam Cushion

In his latest newsletter, Gurman writes how Vision Pro’s demonstration will be Apple’s “most sophisticated sales pitch ever.” It could last up to “25 minutes,” but the entire process could take longer. First, users would get their faces scanned by an Apple store official. This would determine each customer’s perfect light seal, band size, and foam cushion. If the users wear prescription glasses, the officials will scan the lenses for power-related information and equip the headset with the required ones.

Second Step: Performing Several Tracking Routines To Complete Set Up

Next, the staff should explain the basics of the mixed-reality headset, including how the visionOS operating system works, how to control the pointer, and how to make selections to interact with the interface. After that, the user must wear the headset and perform several tapping and tracking routines to calibrate the device. It is after all these things that the Vision Pro demonstration would begin.

Step Three: Going Through The Interface

Gurman writes that the demonstration will include opening the Photos app to view images. Then, gradually, the staff will guide users in viewing 3D movies, which consists of a scene that “makes users feel as if they’re on a tightrope.” Then, customers will learn about using Vision Pro instead of their Mac or iPad, with multiple apps and windows open simultaneously. However, the main challenge for the company remains to make this process exciting and not tiring for the customers.

Those who want to get a closer look at the Vision Pro’s interface and features must consider visiting “m1astra” on Discord. The channel contains many videos about the upcoming headset’s setup procedure, interface, controls, and other aspects. The device is about to hit shelves in the United States on February 2, 2024.
