Fitbit Charge 6 launched with improved heart rate sensor & Google features

The all-new Fitbit Charge 6 is now more Google-y than ever before. Pegged at $160, this premium-tier tracker inherits the best of the Google Pixel Watch and builds on the legacy of its predecessors. Google has incorporated YouTube and Google Maps support along with 5ATM water-proof and a new ‘Porcelain’ colorway inspired by Google Pixel 8 Pro. Let’s see the latest fitness tracker in action.

Unveiling $160 Fitbit Charge 6

Fitbit launched the next-gen Fitbit Charge 6, a successor to Charge 5 (of course), early on Thursday. It now gets a color touchscreen, a slim band design, and the best Pixel Watch onboard. Specs-wise, the fitness tracker uses a 1.04” AMOLED color panel onboard. The watch uses primarily aluminum, resin, and glass for the construction including a haptic side button added after a load of user feedback.

Moving further, Charge 6 uses Fitbit’s proprietary OS which makes it unique from Pixel Watch’s Wear OS. It has gained turn-by-turn navigation from Google Maps, NFC support for contactless payments via Google Music, and YouTube Music playback controls on-screen. Call it a master blaster and you won’t be wrong albeit it’s a reference that only people familiar with cricket would get.

Fitbit Charge 6 loves its heart rate tracking. It now uses an updated optical sensor for heart rate tracking paired with new electrical sensors and keeps you updated about your heart rate in real-time. It is backed by Google’s machine learning algorithms to catch any atrial fibrillation or other supported abnormalities that it can warn you against. The tracker giant is confident about the heart rate tracker and has mentioned it is now 60% more accurate than the ones in its predecessors.

Charge 6 takes on more fitness features

Google-owned Fitbit has primarily positioned itself as a fitness-first wearable brand. It seems like Charge 6 won’t disappoint as it enters the market. The watch has gained 20 new workout tracking modes including HIIT, CrossFit, skiing, surging, etc. For the universe, that takes the number of supported workouts to 40 which should cover most of the sports played across the globe. Its heart rate sensor works flamboyantly on rowing machines, bikes, treadmills, and so on.

There’s building EDA support for stress tracking. You will find sleep tracking, SpO2 tracking for blood oxygen saturation monitoring, skin temperature, and VO2 max reading support among others. The built-in GPS and GLONASS support ensure your fitness tracker keeps track of your location and course, the navigation.

The battery life on the Charge 6 is rated at 7 days on normal use. With AOD and GPS enabled, you might get a little shorter battery life but hey, that’s not a buzzkill given all the fitness trackers have a similar fate.

The Fitbit Charge 6 is priced at $160 or EUR160 available on pre-orders via the official Fitbit website. You can choose between Pixel 8 series Coral, Obsidian, and Porcelain colorways. Lastly, Fitbit India will add Charge 6 to its catalog soon but there’s no date as of now.
