OpenAI’s ChatGPT app for MacOS is now available as a free download. The app was previously exclusive for ChatGPT Plus since last month. The desktop app is only available for macOS 14+ devices with Apple Silicon (M1 or better).
ChatGPT for MacOS
Users can summon ChatGPT from any screen on their device by pressing the Option + Space keys. The app UI looks similar to ChatGPT on the web and supports multi-modal search options. You can go with the usual text and voice input alongside image and file uploads.
OpenAI also confirmed its ChatGPT app for Windows is coming later this year.

since they're making one for windows, how hard is it to make another one for the old macs? or, are they only making one for arm soc's and neglect the billions of laptops out there with x86
?

If they wanted to support the remaining x86 Macs, they'd need to ship another binary and maintain another code base or hope and pray that Rosetta 2 works flawlessly. I honestly can't blame OpenAI for this, blame Apple if you want to blame a...
