The new iPhone 14 series has introduced a major shift in smartphone technology, courtesy of the new Dynamic Island notch on the Pro modes. While Apple launched the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus alongside the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, but it is the Pro variants which have seen high demands ever since launch because of this awesome tech upgrade. You're likely to face a lengthy waiting period before you get your hands on one. In fact, you might not get one at all even during Christmas and this is the reason why.

Although Apple managed to deal with high demand for these smartphones by increasing the production of popular ones, it seems like a new problem has arisen as China has tightened its COVID-19 restrictions even further and now, violent protests have broken out in the iPhone factory there. The production of its latest flagships, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max has taken a hit due to this.

While the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are manufactured around the world, the Pro variants are only manufactured at the Foxconn plant located in Zhengzhou, central China. The factory was already running at reduced capacity which led to shipment delays, but now it has witnessed large-scale protests by the plant staff.

Apple's reply

Apple has already acknowledged the problem as a couple of days ago it announced that, “COVID-19 restrictions have temporarily impacted the primary iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max assembly facility located in Zhengzhou, China. The facility is currently operating at significantly reduced capacity. As we have done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we are prioritizing the health and safety of the workers in our supply chain.”

The waiting times are so lengthy that if you wish to buy an iPhone 14 Pro Max today, you're likely to face a 5-week waiting period both in the US, UK and India.
