Is Apple shortchanging buyers with the iPhone 14? Apple has not put the best part in it.

On Wednesday, September 7, Apple held its big Far Out event from the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park. During the event, Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple stated that the new iPhone 14 lineup is moving in the direction to make the smartphones more essential to the buyers. However, once the dust was cleared, the iPhone 14 non-Pro models surprisingly lacked the kind of upgrade that many fans wanted. The general feeling among the fans was that the iPhone 14 missed out on some big and ‘essential' parts and features.

The iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max were the stars of the show. Both the devices received the latest A16 Bionic chipset, a 48MP primary rear camera, a redesigned pill shaped notch which doubles as a ‘Dynamic Island' and shows animated notification alert as well as always-on display. All of these upgrades were pretty major and have given these devices a substantial edge over its predecessor. Sadly, the same cannot be said for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.

iPhone 14 misses out on the best features

The iPhone 14 on the other hand, got the previous year's A15 Bionic chipset, albeit with some minor upgrades, the details of which are not known yet. The camera on the device is also the same as the iPhone 13, although Apple promises better processed images with its Photonic Engine. The front camera did receive autofocus feature, but that can barely be called a major upgrade.

There is no notch replacement on the non-Pro models and as a result these devices also miss out on the cool functionalities of the Dynamic Island. And in the same vein, no always-on display for these devices either.

It's not as if Apple just refurbished the iPhone 13. The phone has been promised a better performing battery, faster performance and better image quality. And some niche features like satellite connectivity which is not likely to be released in India anytime soon. Crash detection has also come to the iPhone 14 but unless you get in a crash, this feature is going to sit quietly in the background.

On a whole, it does feel that the iPhone 14 has gotten the shorter stick and missed out on some much needed features that could have helped differentiate it from its predecessor. But as things stand, apart from new colorways, there is not really much that can convince the buyers to take a stab at the iPhone 14.
