Ather Unveils Anticipated ‘Rizta’ as Name for Upcoming Family Scooter, Set to Debut in April

8 months ago 53

In a bid to reclaim its foothold in the competitive electric two-wheeler market, Ather Energy has been diligently strategizing to fortify its standing, having recently slipped from the top three positions in monthly sales volumes. Taking decisive action, the brand has undertaken a significant price reduction of up to Rs 25,000 for its entry-level model, the Ather 450S. Intent on narrowing the gap with leading rivals such as TVS and Bajaj, Ather Energy is making waves with the unveiling of its second model line, named the Ather Rizta. This upcoming addition, an innovative family scooter, is set to make its debut at the highly anticipated 2024 Ather Community Day, anticipated in April, with a market launch scheduled for mid-2024.

Ather Rizta Confirmed

Making the announcement on social media, Ather Energy co-founder Tarun Mehta disclosed the name of the upcoming scooter. Mehta shared that the Ather Rizta has undergone development since 2019, positioning itself as a model designed with a strong focus on rider comfort and safety. The scooter is set to introduce ‘industry-first’ features, all while upholding the consistent level of quality and reliability for which other Ather scooters are renowned.

Well, we had our fun with ‘Diesel’.

But we are definitely not naming our first family scooter Diesel (sorry, Fast and Furious fans)

Unlike our usual names which have been more of an engineering nomenclature, we are taking a different route this time.

Ather Rizta Design and Expected Features

Having been previously captured in test camouflage, the Ather Rizta emerges as a distinct addition to the Ather Energy lineup. Setting itself apart from the sleek and compact 450 series e-scooters, the Rizta boasts a notably larger and more imposing presence. The front-end showcases a slimmer, horizontal lighting configuration, a departure from the vertically-stacked headlight characteristic of the 450 models. Equipped with a telescopic fork, 12-inch alloy wheels, and a front disc brake, the Rizta combines style with practicality.

Notable features include a spacious and comfortable seat, a flat floorboard, a protective cover for the final drive, a sturdy pillion grab rail, integrated footrests, and a horizontal LED tail-light. Expected to provide more underseat storage, surpassing the 450’s 22-litre capacity.

The Ather Rizta is anticipated to feature a mid-drive motor similar to the 450 models. However, it remains uncertain whether Ather will make substantial changes to the frame, as the 450 series currently employs aluminum, a material that might be replaced with steel to reduce costs. There is speculation that Ather might introduce the 7.0-inch ‘DeepView’ LCD, initially featured on the 450S, on entry-level trims for a more budget-friendly option. Yet, it is expected that a touchscreen interface will be available on the higher-spec Rizta model. The final details regarding the motor, frame, and display options are yet to be confirmed.

Battery Expectation

Presently, the 450 lineup presents two battery choices: the 2.9 kWh pack available in the 450S and 450X, and the exclusive 3.7 kWh pack in the 450X. In the case of the Ather Rizta, it is anticipated that the scooter might come with both standard and long-range battery variants, mirroring the existing lineup. However, a noteworthy consideration lies in whether Ather will opt for an even smaller battery size, aiming to further reduce the scooter’s cost and enhance affordability for a wider consumer base. The potential introduction of diverse battery options could significantly impact the market positioning and accessibility of the Ather Rizta.
