Apple Vision Pro Supports 100Hz Refresh Rate: Report

Apple Vision Pro to get a lighter successor

Apple’s upcoming mixed-reality headset, the Vision Pro, is touted to feature micro OLED displays with 23 million pixels that provide 4K resolution to each eye, which the company announced earlier this year. The company also mentions that the Vision Pro’s displays will generally run on 90Hz, except when users view 24Hz content when the device switches to a refresh rate of 96Hz.

X User Finds References To 100Hz Refresh Rate In visionOS

A new report by MacRumors reveals that the headset’s display can support up to 100Hz refresh rate, references to which were found in the latest visionOS beta by X user M1 Astra. However, the headset only shifts to 100Hz when it detects 50Hz flicker from artificial lighting sources around it. In total, the headset supports three refresh rate modes, including 90Hz, 96Hz, and 100Hz, and it can switch between these as needed.

Vision Pro Has Three Refresh Modes

These modes are the Travel Mode, which locks the refresh rate at 90Hz; the 24fps mode, which switches to 96Hz; and the flicker compensation mode, which increases the refresh rate to 100Hz. Moreover, these modes will ensure that Vision Pro provides the best viewing experience in all situations while saving some battery wherever possible.

Most recently, we learned that Apple is considering making the Vision Pro smaller and lighter. In testing, the company discovered that some users had neck issues while wearing the headset for an extended duration. Read more details about the company’s plans for the Vision Pro headset here.
