Apple Releases iOS 17.2: Here’s Everything You Should Know

After launching the iOS 17.2 Release Candidate last week, Apple released the stable public version of the operating system for compatible iPhone and iPad models on Monday. The update includes some new additions to the iOS experience, including the Journal App and Contact Key Verification, among others. Here’s everything you should know about the new iOS 17.2 update.

Journal App Debuts With iOS 17.2

Per the official support page, Journal is a new app that makes it easy to develop a journaling habit. The app suggestions include group outings, workouts, photos, and more (through on-device machine learning) to help remind users to document and reflect on their experiences.

“With Journal, it’s easy to get started by logging a simple text entry or adding rich details like photos, videos, locations, or audio recordings,” mentions Apple in the official newsroom post. Regarding security, entries in the Journal app are encrypted.

Contact Key Verification Helps Users Verify The Receiver

Contact Key Verification is next up on the list of new features in iOS 17.2, which adds a new layer of security to iMessage. When enabled, the feature verifies that users are messaging with the person they intend to via an automated process.

Users can also perform manual verification from Conversation Details, which generates two codes for the sender and receiver, matching which makes the conversation secure. To do this, both users should be connected to a cellular or Wi-Fi network and need to follow the Verify Contact process on the iPhone.

Users Can Now React To Messages With Live Stickers

With Live Sticker reaction, iOS 17.2 users can now react to Message texts with stickers. The new operating system also lets Apple Music subscribers automatically add songs users have marked as favorites to their library. The Memoji editor now has a new menu called Body. It enables the user to edit the appearance of their Memoji’s body, including details like waist, bust, arms, and shoulders. iOS 17.2 is also the first version that allows users to change the default notifications sound on their iPhone.

There’s An AppleCare And Warranty Menu In iOS 17.2

Other new features include the AppleCare and Warranty option in the General menu that displays the connected devices’ warranty status, the sharing of Contact Poster via Phone and FaceTime, the addition of a translation feature to iPhone 15 Pro’s action button, and Spatial Video recording for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

New Weather And Clock Widget

The new Weather widget provides six options with features like an interactive moon calendar, overall rain amount in an area, and wind speed. The News app now supports Live Activities, and the clock widgets are also updated. One of the most awaited features of the update enables Qi2 wireless charging on older iPhone models like the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 14.
