On Tuesday, October 17, the Cupertino-based tech giant Apple launched a new Apple Pencil. However, the company isn’t calling it the “Apple Pencil (3rd Generation).” Instead, the stylus is named Apple Pencil (USB-C). With the new model, the company now provides users with three options when getting a new iPad. However, does it have any new features? Is it better than the device’s previous generation? Here’s everything you should know about the new Apple Pencil (USB-C).

Apple Pencil (USB-C) Design And Compatibility

The latest Apple Pencil comes with a matte finish and a flat-side design, similar to the Apple Pencil (2nd Generation). Further, the input device now has a USB-C port for charging and pairing with the iPad (cable not included in box).

The port is hidden underneath a sliding cap at the end of the pencil. Additionally, it works with all iPads that have a USB-C port, including iPad (10th Generation), iPad Air (4th Generation and later), iPad Pro 11-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd Generation and later), and iPad mini (6th Generation).

Apple Pencil (USB-C) Features

Apple mentions in the press release that the new Apple Pencil (USB-C) offers pixel-perfect accuracy, low latency, and tile sensitivity. With these features, users can take notes, sketch, annotate documents, journal, or scribble something in the Notes app. With M2 models of iPad Pro, the Apple Pencil (USB-C) also supports hover, a feature that lets users know exactly where the tip of the stylus is above the screen, helping in detailed illustrations.

It also sticks magnetically to the side of an iPad for storage, but unlike the Apple Pencil (2nd Generation), it doesn’t charge simultaneously. Users must connect the stylus using a USB-C to USB-C cable with a compatible device to charge.

Apple Pencil (USB-C) Vs. Apple Pencil (2nd Generation) Vs. Apple Pencil (1st Generation)

Compared to the other two Apple Pencils, the new model lacks a couple of features, placing it between the other two. For instance, the Apple Pencil (USB-C) doesn’t support pressure sensitivity. Further, it doesn’t support wireless pairing and charging, a feature limited to the top-end second-generation stylus. Last but not least, the model lacks the double-tap gesture.

Apple Pencil (USB-C) Price

The new Apple Pencil (USB-C) will be available in the USA for $79, starting early November. The model will cost Rs. 7,900 in India, while the Apple Pencil (2nd Generation) costs Rs. 11,900.
