Apple Vision Pro is about to hit stores on February 2, 2024. Ahead of the launch, the pre-orders for the product will begin on January 19. While we already know quite a lot of details, such as how the company plans to demo the device at stores and the amount of RAM it will ship with, a new development related to the mixed-reality headset has surfaced online. Apple has cut down one feature from the final product.
Apple Has Removed Open Sky Environment Feature From Its Website And Introduction Video
Apple has possibly cut the Open Sky Environment feature that replaces your ceiling, from Apple Vision Pro.
Recently, Apple edited their "Introducing Apple Vision Pro" video on YouTube and their website, removing the Open Sky clip.

According to tipster M1Astra, Apple has recently changed a part of the Vision Pro introduction video on its official YouTube channel and website. In the updated version, the company doesn’t mention the Open Sky Environment feature Apple showcased at the WWDC 2023 while announcing the product. For those catching up, the feature would allow users to replace their room’s ceiling with a virtual sky.
According to a report by 9To5Mac, the section on Apple’s website that described how the feature works, saying it “magically replace your ceiling with a clear, open sky,” has been replaced with “turn your room into a person movie theater with the Cinema Environment.” Further, the updated video clip doesn’t contain the part that showcased the virtual sky, indicating that the company has decided to scrap the feature.
Why Did Apple Scrap The Open Sky Environment Feature?
It is not clear as to why Apple decided to remove the feature before the final launch. Replacing a particular portion of the vision with a realistic view of the sky could occupy a lot of hardware resources, including the processor and battery. That could be one of the potential reasons. On the other hand, there’s a possibility that the feature never worked as intended or with the perfection Apple wanted it to. Therefore, the company removed it from the final product.
However, this doesn’t mean that Open Sky Environment can’t make it to the headset with a future update. Nonetheless, Apple hasn’t commented on removing the feature nor given a reason. For now, interested customers in the United States are waiting for the pre-orders to open on the aforementioned date.
