Apple CarPlay To Receive Huge Update Later This Year With Focus On Usability And Customization

7 months ago 52

New Apple CarPlay features

Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has confirmed that it will update its car infotainment system, CarPlay, later this year. Although the company hasn’t revealed too many details, some information about the upcoming additions has surfaced online. According to a report by MacRumors, the iOS 17.4 beta contains certain glimpses into the new CarPlay apps.

CarPlay To Get Several New Apps

First, a CarPlay app will let users manage paired iPhones and adjust vehicle settings. While managing paired iPhones could include switching ringer modes or volume levels, adjusting vehicle settings could imply changing the audio levels and other in-vehicle settings from the new CarPlay interface. Further, another app should be able to access a vehicle’s rear-view camera feed.

For users driving an electric vehicle, Apple CarPlay should display information like the battery level, charging status, time remaining until full charge, the estimated range, and so on. A new climate control app should be able to monitor and change the vehicle’s temperature settings, fan speed, and ventilated seat functionality, among others.

Better Media, Closure, And Trip Monitoring Features

The media app in updated CarPlay will provide access to FM/AM radio stations and other options like SiriusXM. Other new functionalities include displaying a warning if any doors are open, displaying each tire’s pressure (with related warnings), and a variety of drive-related data, including the average speed, mileage for the current trip, total trip time, distance, and so on.

Next Generation CarPlay To Be “Ultimate iPhone Experience” For Cars

In recent years, Apple has unlocked a lot of customization options for iPhone users. The upcoming CarPlay version will also borrow related features, allowing users to customize the interface by providing theme and color scheme options. Moreover, the forthcoming update in CarPlay looks compelling enough to be users’ primary driving companion.

Aston Martin and Porsche were the first companies to preview the updated Apple CarPlay in their vehicles. Though the former could release its first model with the new user interface in 2024, the latter hasn’t announced a timeline yet. Further, it isn’t clear whether vehicles with current-generation CarPlay will get an update.
