AMD Launches Ryzen 8040 Series With Nine New Models

The California-based chip manufacturer AMD just launched the new Ryzen 8040 series of mobile processors. These chipsets have up to 1.6x more AI processing power than previous AMD models. Further, the company is also making its Ryzen AI Software widely available so that users can easily build and deploy machine learning models on their PCs.

New AMD Chipsets To Be Available From Popular OEMs

In the official press release, AMD mentions that the processors will be broadly available in models from popular OEMs like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Razer, starting in Q1 2024. The company claims the top-of-the-line chipset, Ryzen 9 8945HS, can provide up to 64 percent faster video editing and 37 percent faster 3D rendering than Core i9-13900H with similar resources.

Based on the AMD Zen 4 architecture, the new processors also provide a faster gaming performance. Per the company, these processors are for creative professionals, gamers, and mainstream users with heavy workflows. They are not only power efficient but support advanced LPDDR5 RAM.

AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS Details

The AMD Ryzen 8040 series consists of nine new processors. The most powerful is the Ryzen 9 8945HS, with eight cores and 16 threads, a maximum clock speed of up to 5.2GHz, and 24MB of total cache. The second most potent chipset is the Ryzen 7 8845HS, which also comes with eight cores, 16 threads, and a maximum clock speed of 5.1GHz. Both these processors have 45W TDP.

Among the Ryzen 5 models, the Ryzen 5 8645HS is the most capable with six cores, 12 threads, a maximum clock speed of up to 5.0GHz, and a 45W TDP. The baseline model in the lineup, the Ryzen 3 8440U, comes with four cores and eight threads and has a maximum clock speed of 4.7GHz.
