Apple may increase the gap between the iPhone 15 Pro and the standard versions next year. It may also roll out a new name for one of its phones. Come next year and the top-end variant may well be the iPhone 15 Ultra. Here is why.

During the pre-launch period of the iPhone 14 lineup most analysts strongly hinted that the new upcoming giant offering instead of the mini iPhone will be called iPhone 14 Max. But later, it turned out to be the iPhone 14 Plus. Now, it seems that Apple is changing the nomenclature that we have seen for years on another model. As per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the next year's Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max might be called iPhone 15 Ultra. This could be a strategy to differentiate the top-end model of the lineup from all the others. Currently, there isn't much difference between the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, besides the large size.

“I believe Apple will create more differentiation between iPhone 15 Pros and iPhone 15 standard models to increase Pro shipment allocation and the new iPhone ASP,” Apple Analyst Mark Gurman tweeted. This year, even before the launch of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro Max, it was clear that there could be a massive difference between the standard iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro models. And that's what happened. The iPhone 14 took more or less iPhone 13 features and even retained the same look, while the iPhone 14 Pro variants are like a game-changer for Apple.

Now, just days after the launch of the iPhone 14, it is expected that there will be more differences between the Pros and non-Pro models of the next iPhone 15 lineup. “Taking a step further, Apple will also start creating differentiation between the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro. It's the best practice via a precise product segmentation strategy to generate more sales/profits in a mature market,” Gurman further mentioned.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro may have a HUGE gap in features

The same has been touted by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that the standard iPhone 15 and Pro models will have more differentiation in order to increase the average selling price and shipment allocation. This further emphasised the iPhone 15 Ultra.

Apple has already differentiated between the vanilla iPhone 14 vis a vis iPhone 14 Pro models in terms of specs and features. How? The new A16 Bionic chipset, Dynamic Island, a new 48MP camera, always-on-display feature and much more are exclusively available on iPhone 14 Pro models.
