2024 iPad Pro models to get OLED panels & 3nm M3 chipset

Apple is getting ready to transition from mini-LED technology to OLED with the iPad Pros. Seems like 2024 is gonna be the year for a massive transition for 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros OLED. The slates will also see an upgrade to Apple’s 3nm M3 chipset if the predictions turn out to be true.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the upcoming iPad Pro OLED will see some of the biggest changes although he refrained from sharing any timelines. We are hoping it is 2024 as per the latest investor note coming from Jeff Pu.

Turns out both slate variants will adopt the same LTPO backplane as the iPhone 15 Pro series. These OLED panels offer a much better power efficiency and image quality. Apart from that, we could see ProMotion technology onboard that allows the upcoming iPad Pros to support a 120Hz refresh rate that dips down to as well as 1Hz as required.

Apple is expected to ship 6-8 million units next year. Do note that we have heard about shipments as high as 10 million which is still lower than the shipments for mini-LED versions. It could be probably due to the high price of these OLED units that would otherwise make the 12.9” iPad Air a lucrative choice for the customers which explains the weaker momentum.

Moving on, we have a 3nm Apple M3 chipset to power iPad Pro OLED. For the unversed, it is a major upgrade from the M2-powered iPad Pro. When compared to Geekbench 6 multi-core tests, iPad Pro with M2 hits 9,577 while M3 has a multi-core result of 12,085 points which is a significant jump.

As the newer iPad Pro OLED models drop by next year, we are expecting price drops across the existing lineup that should make M2 iPad Pro a best buy. As usual, we will have to wait for a few months before getting any concrete information about the launch and availability so till then, keep your fingers crossed.
